Siena Heights halts unbeaten run for GC men's soccer

Razor shines with third goal of season in first half

GOSHEN, Ind. — Lars Razor scored his team-high-tying third goal of the season for the Goshen College men's soccer squad Saturday, but the Saints of Siena Heights University double-dipped with second-half goals on the way to a 3-1 victory that dealt the Maple Leafs their first loss of the 2021 season at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Jonas Walter and Gustavo Barros scored for the Saints (1-1), who also got an own goal for insurance with 13:20 remaining. The Maple Leafs (3-1-3) held leads of 12-6 in shots and 13-1 in corner kicks.

Walter's strike in the 13th minute opened the scoring on an assist from David Turner before Razor took a pass from Felipe Gallo to equalize three seconds after the midway point of the first half. The game was 1-1 at halftime before Barros put the visitors back in front with a through pass from Franco Alves with 32:34 remaining.

GC played the final half-hour and change down a man after a 60th-minute red card.

Razor's 3 shots led all players and Luiz Matteus Pontes was the only Maple Leaf to put multiple attempts on target, while SHU's only three shots on target were its goals. Jacob Wojciechowski made three saves between the sticks for the Saints.

Goshen now hits the road for its final two non-conference games of the season, visiting Lourdes University in Ohio on Wednesday and Lawrence Technological University in Michigan on Saturday. Kickoff for the Lourdes match is set for 7 p.m.
