UPLAND, Ind. – The Goshen men's soccer team moved to the seventh position in the Crossroads League with a 1-0 shutout win at Taylor on Saturday night. The Leafs now sit at 2-3-1 in conference games.
The Leafs took twice as many shots as the Trojans in the first half – firing 12 but without any finding the back of the net.
Matias da Fonseca made three first-half saves for Goshen, and the teams were still tied at zero at the half.
That would change in the 64
th minute as
Lucas Bontreger scored his sixth goal of the season and put Goshen on the board. The GC defense held Taylor to just three second-half shots, and the Maple Leafs left with their first win against Taylor since 2018. It is the first shutout win over the Trojans since 2015.
Bontreger took seven of Goshen's 19 shots, with three landing on goal.
Jannik Schoske,
Wendo Kisila,
Mathurin Allawai,
Bryan Yahir Rodriguez, and
John Mlondani all had multiple shots as well. Bontreger is tied for fifth in the Crossroads League with four goals in conference play. He is one of three players in the league to have two game-winners in conference play.
Goshen has three regular season games remaining as they sit in the middle of a tight conference where only Bethel has separated itself from the rest. Goshen's final regular season home game is Saturday, October 22, at 7:00 pm against Marian. Eleven seniors will be recognized on the team -
Ruam Barbosa,

Jannik Schoske,

Wendo Kisila,
Luiz Matteus Pontes,
Ryan Almeida,
Vitor Romero dos Santos,
