GOSHEN, Ind. – Although improving each set, the Maple Leafs women's volleyball team was defeated by #15 Marian in Goshen on Wednesday night, 3-0.
Marian held quick 12-4 and 13-4 leads in the first two sets. Goshen outscored Marian 9-8 in the final 17 points of the third set, but Marian still left with a seven-point victory in the final stanza.
Skyler Van Note paved the way for the Knights with 19 kills and no errors in 31 total attacks for a .613 hitting percentage. She also contributed three aces and 12 digs. Averi Lanman and Madison Brooks combined for 13 block assists and Gianna Feld added another ten digs.
Goshen scored just ten points in the first set but totaled 13 in the second and 17 in the third set.
Sadie Brenneman had ten assists, eight digs, and a .267 hitting percentage.
Sydney Stutsman led the team with 11 digs and also 15 assists. Goshen had three solo blocks – two from
Brenna Spangler and one from
Amy Baca.
Marian moves to 10-3 in the Crossroads League and 18-3 overall. Goshen makes the trek to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday, October 21, at 7:00 pm. The only remaining regular season home game for the Leafs is on Friday, October 28, at 7:00 pm.
