MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Kassidy Faler and
Sadie Brenneman displayed double-digit digs and
Emily Lynch was one shy of double-digit kills in Mount Vernon on Friday night. But MVNU improved to 23-6 this season with a three-set victory.
The Cougars got off to quick 5-0 and 4-0 leads in the first two sets. However, the Maple Leafs struck first in what ended up being the final set. Goshen held an 8-6 lead in the third until the home team answered back with a 19-5 run. Mount Vernon Nazarene won by much larger margins compared to when the two met in Goshen on September 23. Goshen lost by a combined five points in the first two sets of the previous matchup.
Lynch finished with nine kills and three block assists for Goshen. Faler led the defense with 11 digs and Brenneman had ten digs and four kills.
Brenna Spangler had two block assists and a solo block. Paige Brenner led the Cougars with 34 assists and was one of three players for the home team with 10 or more digs. Ashley Stumperth had a double-double with 15 kills and ten digs.
MVNU laid down seven aces whereas Goshen had none. It was only the second match this season where the Leafs haven't recorded an ace.
Goshen is back on the road tomorrow, Saturday, October 22, to face Huntington at 3:00 pm.
