SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The Cougars scored four goals from four different players on Wednesday night in a 4-0 shutout over the Goshen men's soccer team.
Goshen had a couple of early chances with shots from
Felipe Carli and
Vitor Romero dos Santos. But the Cougars settled in and struck twice in a span of five minutes and 16 seconds.
Aiden Avalos had a pass go over his intended target, but Trevor Kacou got to it and sent a rocket to the back of the net. Then nearly 25 minutes in, A shot by Kacou was stopped by
Matias da Fonseca, however, Jeff Victoria was in a perfect position for the rebound and put it in.
The third goal came a few minutes before halftime. Rood Schnaider displayed some fancy footwork along the left side which led to Ben Dykstra eventually coming up with the ball. He set it up where he wanted it and curled it to the top right corner of the net to give SAU a 3-0 lead at the break. The Goshen defense held Spring Arbor scoreless in the second half until there was just a minute and a half to go. Kacou fed a pass over to Abdulrahman Al-Rashed who hit the ball in with his left foot to extend the lead.
Spring Arbor had 17 total shots and Goshen had nine. However, GC doubled their shot total with three in the first half but six in the second half. Carli took a third of the team's shots.
Henrique Eichenberger, Romero dos Santos, and Carli had the three shots on goal. Da Fonseca made six saves for the Leafs.
This was just the third league match for Spring Arbor where the result hasn't ended in a tie. They are now 2-1-5 in conference play. Goshen (2-11-3, 2-5-1 CL) is at (RV) Huntington on Saturday, October 29, at 3:00 pm for the last game of the regular season. Goshen is tied for Marian for eighth in the conference with seven points, but Marian won the head-to-head matchup 4-1.
