GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen women's basketball team took just their second loss of the season at the hands of the Grace Lancers. Grace came into Gunden Gymnasium and left with a 74-57 win as the teams head into the Thanksgiving break.
The Maple Leafs led 7-3 early on, but the Lancers answered with a 9-0 run. Their largest lead of the first two quarters came as they entered the locker rooms – with a 40-28 lead. GC started to push late in the third quarter, thanks to the play of
Sophia Eli. She hit a three to cut a ten-point deficit to seven and made herself known on the defensive end as well. Grace created more separation at the end, finishing the contest on a 7-0 run.
Eli finished with 14 points in 16 minutes. She was 4-7 from the field with four steals and a block. Kyla Foster had ten points, seven steals, and five rebounds, but also six turnovers. Zion Neat had 12 points, and Kiana Oelling had ten. Goshen's two leading scorers, Zion Neat and
Sa'drea Rougeau, combined to shoot just 6-16 from the field.
The Lancers were led by Maddie Ryman's 23 points and 20 more from Kiersten Findley. Grace is receiving votes in the coaches' poll and improves to 6-1 and 2-0 in the conference.
Goshen is now 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the Crossroads League. Their next game is at Saint Francis (Ind.) on November 30 at 7:00 pm.
