NOTRE DAME, Ind. - After a 3-0 start to the season, the Goshen women's basketball team took their first loss of the year to Holy Cross College. The Saints dominated the Maple Leafs from start to finish, winning 84-48.
Goshen never had the lead in the game and Holy Cross got out to a hot 19-4 advantage. Jayda Miller had 20 first half points for the Saints and was 4-6 on three point attempts in the half. She would finish the game with 33 points and made 14 of her 21 field goal attempts.
The Maple Leafs outscored the Saints 17-16 in the second quarter, but Holy Cross continued to pull away in the final two quarters - outscoring the Leafs 40-20 in that span. They finished with a 49% field goal percentage, compared to 30% for Goshen. They won in the rebounding department 43-33, with 20 coming at the offensive end. 48 of their points came in the paint, while Goshen had 16.
Syanne Mohamed scored nine points and had seven rebounds and a steal for Goshen. Zion Neat also had nine points with four rebounds and an assist. Kiana Oelling had three blocks and Nay Butler added two steals. Goshen had won the last three matchups against Holy Cross by an average of 6.3 points. This was the first road game of the season for the Leafs.
Now at 3-1, Goshen faces Purdue Fort Wayne in an exhibition game on Monday, November 7, at 7:00 pm in Fort Wayne.
