Michael Johnson scored half of Goshen's points as the Maple Leafs lost to Marian 87-50 on Saturday afternoon in Goshen.
Michael Johnson made ten of his 16 attempts and knocked down five free throws. He has scored at least 20 points in each of his last three games.
Other leading scorers for the Maple Leafs were
Ryan Mansbarger with seven,
Gabriel McQuay with six, and
Greg Johnson with five.
Marian had four double-digit scorers. Jacob Wiley led the team with 23 points, Christian Harvey had 15, Christian Stewart scored 14, and Maximus Gizzi added ten off the bench. The Knights came into the game with the fourth-best scoring defense in the NAIA, and it showed as they held Goshen to 50 points and 34.5% shooting. The Knights were also sixth in three-point percentage, and they performed well in that area today, too – making five of their 12 attempts.
The Knights advance their season record to 18-4 and 10-4 in the Crossroads League. They have won four straight games – beating those opponents by an average of 16.75 points.
Goshen (7-19, 3-11 CL) will play at Grace on Wednesday, February 9, at 8:00 pm. On Saturday, February 12, they will be back home to battle Mount Vernon Nazarene at 3:00 pm in Gunden Gymnasium.
