GOSHEN, Ind. –
Madalyne Swallow scored twice as the Goshen Maple Leafs women's soccer team started their 2022 season with a 4-1 win over Brescia.
Rhiannon Holmes scored another goal and had the last touch before an own goal.
After playing at Brescia last season, the Maple Leafs have outscored the Bearcats 10-1 in their two matchups. Goshen quadrupled Brescia's shot total and had all four corner kicks. But the visitors were the ones that got off to a quick start.
In the 12
th minute, Brescia's Maci Uffleman got her team on the board with the game's first goal. Goshen was jumping the gun a bit early on, with 11 offsides calls in the first 23 minutes of action, including six calls in a span of 4:22. Rhiannon Holmes added on in the 24
th minute from a pass by
Natalie Clarke. Holmes and Clark are both transfers, with Holmes arriving from the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain after two seasons and Clarke joining after three seasons from State Fair Community College.
Swallow scored her second goal early in the second half, surpassing her 2021 goal total. All three of her collegiate goals have been against the Bearcats. The own goal brought the score to 4-1, which would be the final.
Goshen plays at St. Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday, August 23, at 8:00 pm ET before playing an exhibition game against Trine at home on Saturday, August 27, at 5:00 pm.
