Goshen drops match to Holy Cross College

Leafs unable to strike on late corner kick chances

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After three ties to start the season, the Saints from Holy Cross College secured their first win of the season in a 2-0 home win over Goshen. The Maple Leafs had six corner kicks and a few late opportunities but could not connect.

This is the second straight contest that the Saints haven't allowed their opponent to score. Holy Cross scored their first goal nineteen minutes in as Mia Garatoni secured a high ball, which caught the Goshen defense off guard. The second goal came in the 66th minute as Solena Cruz sent a ball over a Goshen defender and Hailey Sanders scored.

Goshen had three corner kicks in the final 13 minutes. The second corner resulted in shots by Emma Batten and Yvonne Friedmann, but Saints goalkeeper Taylor Primack blocked both. Izabel Love sent Goshen's next corner in the box, but Lexy Adamczyk's header hit the crossbar. Goshen had ten shots on the day, whereas Holy Cross had eight. Klara Ebert put two shots on goal and Brynja Hjartardottir added another.

Now at 1-2, the Leafs have two opportunities for home wins this holiday weekend. Goshen hosts Point Park (Pa.) on Saturday, September 3, at 7:00 pm. Then the team is back at the GC Soccer Complex again on Labor Day to take on West Virginia Tech on Monday, September 5, at 3:00 pm.
