LIVONIA, Mich. – Madonna broke away in the second half with two goals to defeat the Goshen women's soccer team 2-0. The Crusaders are now 5-1 this season.
Both teams fired three shots, with neither team able to put one in goal. Things changed 62 minutes in when Holly McManus scored from an assist by Abby Werthman to give Madonna a 1-0 lead. In the 83
rd minute, it was Werthman that would be scoring. Her fourth goal of the season increased the home team's lead to two.
Goshen had just one shot in the second half and suffered the shutout after previously shutting out their two most recent opponents.
Anita Tavares and
Brynja Hjartardottir had Goshen's two shots on goal.
Anne Nisley and
Madalyne Swallow had a shot each as well. Goalkeeper
Victoria Naylor recorded two saves.
Goshen is now 3-3 this season with a 3-0 record at home and an 0-3 record on the road.
