GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen women's volleyball team had an opportunity to even the all-time series against Saint Francis at 37 matches apiece, but the Cougars swept the Leafs in three sets on Wednesday night, 25-21, 25-18, 25-12.
Goshen started the first home Crossroads League match of the season with a competitive first set, constantly reciprocating when the Cougars scored. However, Saint Francis stretched a two-point lead to a four-point set win with a kill and ace from Paige Fortkamp. Goshen held a 14-12 lead in the second set, but then the Cougars went on a tear by scoring nine points in a row. The Leafs answered with four in a row, but USF won the following four points and took the set 25-18.
The third set was the best for the visitors, with a hitting percentage of .387 and just two errors on the way to a 25-12 victory. Maile Steckelberg totaled four aces and 18 digs for Saint Francis.
Amy Baca had five kills, an ace, a block assist and a solo block for Goshen.
Sadie Brenneman recorded ten digs and six kills.
