GOSHEN, Ind. - An early goal by
Vitor Romero dos Santos put the Maple Leafs on top, but the Brescia Bearcats men's soccer team roared back with two second-half goals, leading to a 2-1 win.
The goal by dos Santos came nearly fifteen minutes in after
Lucas Bontreger had a shot that was saved and deflected.
Wendo Kisila was there for the rebound, and it just took a simple tap to dos Santos as he came crashing into deliver the goal.
It stayed 1-0 at the half, but Luis Baldivieso scored in the 56th minute for Brescia, followed by another goal for the visitors less than six minutes later. Goshen ended the night with more shots and shots on goal but couldn't add another to tie it up.
Both teams had five corner kicks, and Goshen had two more fouls, 17-15. Kisila had an excellent chance to score with ten minutes to go on a header that was wide left. Bontreger had a pass go just a bit ahead of him, or he would have had a goal with five minutes remaining. Even under 20 seconds, Goshen had shots by
Henrique Eichenberger and Kisila that didn't find the back of the net.
Goshen is 0-6-2 and Brescia is 1-7-0. Goshen is at Indiana Wesleyan next Saturday, September 24, at 7:00 pm.
