INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Twelve aces were the key to the undefeated #3 Marian Knights women's volleyball team topping Goshen on Saturday afternoon, 3-0. The Knights won 25-16, 25-12, 25-21.
Marian started the first set strong, with 17 kills, one error, and a .444 hitting percentage. Goshen led 9-8 early before nine straight points by the Knights. The home team owned the second set from the start as they lept to an 11-1 lead.
The Maple Leafs had a strong showing in the third set, with two fewer kills and one more attack than Marian. Goshen had two 5-0 runs in the set
 and had it tied at 18 before the home team pulled away.
Sydney Stutsman led all players with 29 assists.
Kennedy Land had 12 digs and
Emily Lynch brought down nine kills. Averi Lanman and Skylar Van Note each had a solo block for Marian and Jaymison Summers had three block assists. Van Note added 18 kills. Marian is first in the NAIA in points per set (18.3) and second in kills per set (14.20) and hitting percentage (.322).
Five of the next six matches for Goshen are at home, starting on Wednesday, September 21. The Leafs will take on Spring Arbor at 7:00 pm in Ruth Gunden Gymnasium.
