MARION, Ind. - The Goshen women's basketball team hit a season-high 52.4% of their shots on Wednesday evening in Marion. But 28 turnovers were detrimental to the team's chance of success as #7 Indiana Wesleyan won 103-56.
The Wildcats stormed off to a 10-2 lead, forcing the Maple Leafs to burn a timeout. But the home team continued to dominate, extending the lead to 21-2 and forcing another GC timeout. The Leafs got a couple of baskets in the quarter's final minutes, but it was a 25-8 game as they entered the second.
The second quarter was much the same, as the Wildcats crossed the 50-point mark by halftime, and Goshen was at 19. Goshen had 18 first-half turnovers.
The Maple Leafs shot the ball better in the final two quarters and committed fewer turnovers, but IWU was still clicking offensively. The Wildcats finished with 21 made three-pointers, shooting 48.8% from deep. Forty-three of their 61 shot attempts were from long-range. They also capitalized off Goshen's mistakes, scoring 37 points off turnovers.
Zion Neat scored 15 points for Goshen.
Syanne Mohamed added 13 points, making six of her eight shot attempts.
Kyla Foster and
Kiana Oelling each had three assists. No Maple Leafs player had more than three rebounds, as they posted a season-low 20 total rebounds. Indiana Wesleyan only had 19 of their own - their second-lowest total of the year.
Goshen looks to stop a four-game skid as they play at Bethel on Saturday, January 14, at 1:00 pm. U.S. Highway 20 Cup points are on the line - the teams split the series a year ago.
