MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The Goshen women's basketball team overcame a double digit deficit on Saturday afternoon against Bethel to take a third quarter lead, but the Maple Leafs shot just 10% from three and lost 67-56.
The Pilots scored the first seven points of the game and led by as many as 14 in the first quarter. After a three pointer from Maiah Shelton in the second, Bethel held a 31-16 advantage.
Goshen chipped away at the home team's lead in the third quarter with an 11-0 run to go up by a point.

Sa'drea Rougeau made layups in the paint as a part of the run. Goshen held a one-point edge three times, but a three from Taylor Pasquale in the final seconds of the third quarter put a stop to any more Goshen leads.
That basket started a 13-0 stretch for Bethel, and their lead ballooned to 55-43 with under eight minutes to go. The margin didn't change much for the rest of the game, and the Pilots won 67-56.
The Leafs shot 2-20 from the three-point line and 34% overall. Bethel shot 41% from the floor and 36% behind the arc. GC had one more rebound than the Pilots and two fewer turnovers.
Zion Neat led Goshen with 15 points, but was 1-6 from deep.
Syanne Mohamed had nine points and seven rebounds, and
Sa'drea Rougeau scored eight points and brought in six boards.
Four players scored in double-figures for the Pilots: Katie Kinker, Maiah Shelton, Ellia Foster and Mariah Claywell.
With the win, Bethel leads the 2022-23 edition of the U.S. Highway 20 Cup 4.5-3.0 before the results of the men's game. The Goshen women host #7 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday, January 18, at 7:00 pm. Then on Saturday, January 21, the Leafs host Bethel at 1:00 pm for a chance to even the season series.
