GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen defense successfully defended 18 Saint Francis corner kicks on Saturday night during a 0-0 tie at the GC Soccer Complex. Saint Francis had 14 corners in the second half alone.
The 18 corner kicks from the Cougars doubled the previous high that Goshen had allowed in a game this season. This is the third time this season that the Leafs have played to a 0-0 tie with their opponents. Despite the numerous offensive chances for USF on corners, the Goshen defense held firm and only allowed four shots on goal all game. The Maple Leafs had five of their own.
Victoria Naylor made four saves, all in the first half.
Brynja Hjartardottir had two shots on goal, and
Klara Ebert,
Madalyne Swallow and
Sophia Yoder each had one. GC has not allowed Saint Francis to score a goal since a 1-1 double overtime tie in 2019.
The tie ends a five-game losing streak for Goshen. They host Bethel on Saturday, October 21, at 7:00 pm for Senior Night.
