GOSHEN, Ind. - The first goal of
Alessandra Aguilera's collegiate career ended a scoring drought for the Goshen women's soccer team on Saturday's Senior Night, but two goals that were 50 seconds apart in the final five minutes of the game gave Bethel a 2-1 win over Goshen.
Aguilera scored a beautiful goal on a free kick in the 59th minute. Aguilera is a freshman defender from Elkhart, where she competed at Elkhart High School.
Victoria Naylor made eight saves - her second-most of the season, following nine against Spring Arbor.
The teams combined to take nine shots in the first half but put up 22 in the second. Goshen had 12 shots and five on goal, but no corner kicks in the match. Bethel's goals came from Leena Thomas and Audrey Lerch in the 87th and 88th minutes of the game.
The Maple Leafs need a win on Wednesday to stay alive for a spot in the Crossroads League Tournament. They face Grace in Winona Lake on October 25 at 7:00 pm.
