WINONA LAKE, Ind. - For the first time since September 5, 2000, the Goshen women's soccer team beat the Grace Lancers.
It took some late-game heroics from a goal by
Madalyne Swallow, assisted by
Anita Tavares, in the 86th minute of play. Goshen only had five shots compared to the 20 taken by Grace. But of the two shots on goal from the Leafs, one found the back of the net.
Maple Leafs goalkeeper
Victoria Naylor made seven saves without allowing a goal. It is her fourth shutout this season when she has played the full 90 minutes and her most saves in a game without allowing a goal in her entire collegiate career.
In their last 21 games with the Lacers, Goshen was 0-18-3, with ties coming in 2002, 2007 and 2016. Goshen (1-6-1 CL) can still get into the Crossroads League Tournament with a tie on Saturday at Taylor (4-2-2 CL) if Grace (1-5-2 CL) loses at Bethel (4-4 CL) and Saint Francis (0-6-2) loses or ties at home against Mount Vernon Nazarene (4-3-1). Goshen's matchup at Taylor kicks off at 7:00 pm.
