Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Sean Foulkes

Hankins crosses 800 assists for the season during loss to Huntington on Senior Day

The Maple Leafs play their last home game of the season this Wednesday at 6:00 pm

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen College women's volleyball team fought valiantly against the Foresters of Huntington on Senior Day, taking them to four games in their match, but could not seal the victory.

A bright spot on an otherwise gloomy day would be the exceptional play from Kelsie Hankins, who crossed the 800 mark for season and career assists (826), and Christina Towne, who recorded a career-high 15 kills on the day (she has had two other 12 kill outings this season).

Other leading scorers for Goshen were Sadie Brenneman and Bailee Brown, while Brenna Spangler and Alaina Wolf provided a strong defense for the Leafs.

The Maple Leafs play their last home game of the season this Wednesday at 6:00 pm against Spring Arbor University.

Read below to see what was said about Goshen's three seniors - Brielle Agnew, Gwyn Bellamy and Christina Towne - during the senior day recognition.

Fans, we would now like to recognize our 2023 women's volleyball seniors. These three seniors have lived full lives of faith, unity, learning, and leadership during their time as Goshen College student-athletes. Today we would like to individually acknowledge their careers. While their remaining games are coming to a close, their legacies are cemented into the history of Goshen College, and they will forever be Maple Leafs.

Please direct your attention to the court where we are joined by director of athletics Dr. Erica Albertin, head coach Jeff Phillips and assistant coaches Brianna Foster and Wyatt Bollinger.

First to be recognized is #15, Brie Agnew! Brie is from Indianapolis, Indiana, and is being escorted by her mother Stephanie Hannah, her sister Brooklynn Agnew and her grandparents Andrie and Linda Hannah. Brie is a biology major and plans to go into radiology. Coach Phillips says, "Brie is unique, driven, passionate, and opinionated. She has done everything she has been asked and more and done it with care and commitment. She is someone that makes an impact on others even if she pretends that she doesn't want to. We will miss her personality in the gym everyday. Keep being you." Thank you, Brie!

Next up is #13, Gwyn Bellamy! Gwyn is from Warsaw, Indiana, and is being escorted by her mother, Melissa Bellamy. She is majoring in biology and psychology and as of now plans to get her masters degree in social work. Coach Phillips says, "Gwyn is a player who I have known for a long time. She has always been a player and person who wants to do her very best. She works hard and is a great teammate. Her attitude is almost always positive and that spreads throughout the team. I look forward to her future success." Thank you, Gwyn!

Last but not least is #11, Christina Towne! Christina is from Rochester, Indiana, and is being escorted by her parents Don and MaryKay Towne. She is a business major and plans on starting her career in sales and marketing after college, as well as taking over and growing the family business. Coach Phillips says, "Christina is a player who has been willing to play a variety of roles for us this season. She has grown and improved and taken on other responsibilities beyond the court. As our social media manager she has helped our team reach a much wider fan base. She is mature, strong, and caring. Good luck C!" Thank you, Christina!

Now please help me give a round of applause to your 2023 women's volleyball seniors!
