WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Karson Jenkins scored 22 points off the bench in his Maple Leaf debut, but Madonna beat Goshen in their season opener 81-61 at the Lancer Tipoff Classic.
Jenkins was 8-15 with six rebounds in the game. A graduate of Snider High School in Fort Wayne, Jenkins scored 13 of his points in the second half.
Judah Simfukwe had an efficient night, shooting 7-10 with 16 points.
DJ Bryant had eight points with four steals, four rebounds and three assists.
The Leafs never had the lead in the game and shot 52% from the free-throw line. Madonna scored 52 of their 81 points in the paint and had 24 fast break points. Goshen had 29 points contributed from their bench players.
For day two of the Lancer Tipoff Classic on Saturday, Goshen will face Kentucky Christian at noon. The Classic is hosted by Grace College.
