FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Although they put up 51 points in the second half and outscored the Cougars by nine in that period, the first-half deficit proved to be too much as Goshen lost to Saint Francis on Tuesday night 89-80. USF improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Crossroads League with the win.
After a rough start to the season shooting the ball,
Marcus Northern had a strong performance for a second-straight game with a season-high 21 points on 8-10 shooting. Karson Jenkings scored 20 points off the bench and a team-high four assists.
Judah Simfukwe had 12 points and four steals and
Isaac Miller totaled six rebounds.
Saint Francis had as much as a 21-point lead with 3:43 to go in the first half. But Jenkins scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half after shooting 1-5 in the first. Goshen had a first half field goal percentage of 34.5%, but it jumped to 55.9% in the second half. They were 4-13 from three in the first but 7-11 in the second. They also made 11-12 free-throw attempts in the game. Saint Francis was held to shooting just 21.1% from three. Last season, Goshen lost to the Cougars by 35 points on the road.
Goshen hosts Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday, November 25, at 3:00 pm in Ruth Gunden Gymnasium.
