GOSHEN, Ind. - Kevin Cota tripled his season-high in points on Saturday with 18 in a loss to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. The Pomeroys defeated the Maple Leafs 91-74.
The Pomeroys had their first double-digit lead at 20-10 but Goshen later had a 10-0 run that tied the score 22-22. However, SMWC came back and finished the half on a 24-7 run. The second half was full of offense with both teams scoring 45 points, but the visitors carried their 17-point lead to the end.
The Maple Leafs scored 16 more points in the second half compared to the first, similar to the 22-point improvement from the first to the second half in the game at Saint Francis on Tuesday.
Kevin Cota had 18 points off the bench for GC. In 22 minutes, he made eight of his 11 attempts and had seven rebounds - four offensive and three defensive. He had an assist, a block and just one turnover.
Marcus Northern scored 12, which made it his third straight game with 10 or more points.
DJ Bryant had 11 points with three steals and three assists.
Isaac Miller had nine points on 4-5 shooting and
Judah Simfukwe supplied eight points and four assists.
Jared Bonds and
Kahmi Bracey each had seven points. Bonds shot 3-4 and Bracey was 5-5 at the free-throw line. Goshen shot 17-20 as a team at the line compared to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods going 10-19. The Pomeroys are 4-2 now this season.
Goshen hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, December 2, at 3:00 pm in Gunden Gymnasium.
