Cardinals use first half run to beat Maple Leafs in exhibition game

Bonds had seven points, no turnovers

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Goshen Maple Leafs men's basketball team played an exhibition game on Tuesday night against Division I opponent Ball State, losing 101-40. Ten players for Goshen had at least two points and 16 minutes played.

Goshen held their own for the first ten to twelve minutes of action, but the Cardinals ended the first half on a 27-0 run that made a 21-14 game into a 48-14 score as the teams went to the locker rooms. Goshen nearly doubled their point total in the second half compared to the first, but Ball State expanded on the lead and surpassed the 100-point mark with 1:25 to go.

Ball State nearly shot as well from behind the three-point line as they did in front of it. They had a three-point percentage of 52.4% and a field goal percentage of 53.6%. Goshen shot better than Ball State at the free-throw line - 75.0% to 66.7%. The Leafs committed 26 turnovers and shot just 15.0% behind the arc.

Jared Bonds scored seven points for Goshen with three rebounds, two assists and no turnovers in 16 minutes. Kahmi Bracey had six points and no turnovers, shooting a perfect 2-2 from both the field and the free-throw line. Kevin Cota had six points with two rebounds, a block and a steal.

Goshen is at Holy Cross College on Wednesday, November 8, at 8:00 pm as a part of the Crossroads/Chicagoland Challenge.
