Goshen's comeback comes up short against Saint Xavier

Jenkins had 17 points and five steals

GOSHEN, Ind. - Although the Goshen men's basketball team outscored the Cougars 67-63 in the final 36 minutes of action, Saint Xavier had a 14-0 run to start against the Leafs on Tuesday afternoon to win 77-67.

After the 14-0 start, Goshen head coach Kyle Capps took a timeout that quickly paid off. Goshen went on an 8-2 run to pull within eight. However, SXU led by as many as 21 later in the half. GC had a 9-0 run to get within 12 before heading to the locker rooms down 42-25.

The Leafs looked much better in the second half, and a three-pointer with just over a minute to go from Karson Jenkins put Goshen within six. But those would be the final points for the Maple Leafs, as some late free-throws from the visitors made the final score 77-67.

Karson Jenkins scored 17 points off the bench, his fourth straight game with double-digit points. He had five rebounds and a season-high five steals. Comparatively, he had five steals in the prior six games combined. Marcus Northern scored six points with six rebounds and shot 3-5 from three. He has scored ten or more points in four of the last five games after having no games with 10+ points in his first five games. Kevin Cota had eight points, six rebounds, no turnovers and two steals. DJ Bryant and Josh Similien scored nine points each, and Isaac Miller scored seven.

The team will leave for Florida later this week to play two games in the Sunshine State. They challenge Webber International on Friday, December 15, at 5:00 pm before taking on Warner the next day.
