GOSHEN, Ind. - Spring Arbor had struggles from inside the arc, but made ten three-pointers during a 73-60 win over the Maple Leafs mens basketball team on Saturday afternoon. Goshen recognized
Kedrick Bibby for Senior Day before the game.
Elias Ramirez started things off with a three to put Goshen on the scoreboard first. It was his first of four three-pointers that he would make on the day.
Judah Simfukwe scored next to make it 5-0 and the Leafs kept that five-point lead at 14-9.
The momentum swung in the direction of the Cougars from that point, as SAU went on a 16-0 run to go up 25-14. They had a 17-point lead at one point in the first half, but Goshen responded with a 9-0 run of their own to take the lead back down to single digits. It was an eight-point game at the half.
The Cougars outscored the Leafs by five points in the second half as they came out on top 73-60.
Elias Ramirez finished with 18 points with four three-pointers all in the first half.
Kaden Johnson, on the other hand, had more of a second half presence. He had ten points and nine rebounds with five assists, two blocks, and two steals. Five of his nine rebounds were on the offensive end.
Isaac Miller had ten points off the bench and
Greg Johnson II had eight points, six rebounds, two blocks, and three steals off the bench.
Spring Arbor shot 53% from behind the arc even though they shot 42% overall. Austin Braun made five of their three-pointers and led the team with 23 points. Gabe Newhof, Kevyn Robertson, and Eli White all scored in double-figures.
Although it was Senior Day, Goshen still has two more home games before wrapping up the 2023 season. They host Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday, February 14, at 7:00 pm. Then they conclude the year by hosting #18 Huntington on Saturday, February 18, at 3:00 pm.
