GOSHEN, Ind. - In their penultimate game of the season, the Goshen men's basketball team lost to Mount Vernon Nazarene 99-68 on Tuesday.
Graham Eley had career-highs in points, rebounds, assists and minutes.
The Cougars scored the first four points of the game, but Goshen tied it at nine and took the lead at 15-14. A three-pointer from
Elias Ramirez made it a three-point deficit at 23-20 with under six and a half minutes to go in the first half. But from that point on, it was all MVNU.
The Cougars ended the half on a 21-6 run and scored 55 points in the second half. The Goshen offense improved in the second half as well. After shooting 29% in the first, the Leafs shot 50% in the second. Mount Vernon Nazarene has owned the matchup against the Leafs as of late, winning the last ten games by at least eight points each.
Graham Eley played 22 minutes for Goshen, scoring nine points with four rebounds and four assists. All were career highs for the junior from Bronson, Michigan.
Judah Simfukwe led the Maple Leafs with 17 points, and
Greg Johnson II had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Kyle Kegley led the Cougars with 21 points and 18 rebounds. It was his third game of 18+ rebounds this season. Goshen lost the rebounding margin by 20 tonight, their second-worst margin this season. They also had a season-high 25 fouls.
Goshen concludes the season this Saturday, February 18, at home against #18 Huntington at 3:00 pm.
