GOSHEN, Ind. - After a strong showing by the Maple Leafs in the first set, the Indiana Wesleyan women's volleyball team took control in the next two sets to beat Goshen 3-0 on Friday night. The Wildcats won 25-21, 25-11, 25-12.
After quickly falling into a five-point hole after the first seven points of the match, Goshen stormed back to make the score 20-17.
Sadie Brenneman just had a kill from an assist by
Kelsie Hankins to bring Goshen within three, and after the IWU timeout, she added two more to close the set to a one-point gap. Indiana Wesleyan scored five of the last seven points to win the set by four.Â
Goshen had 13 kills in the first set but 11 in the next two combined. IWU finished with nine aces in the match, while GC had none. However, the 21 points Goshen scored in the first set was the most they've scored against IWU in a set since September 25, 2019. Indiana Wesleyan is ranked #5 in the NAIA and improved to 11-0.
Gwyn Bellamy had eight kills, Hankins had 17 assists and
Alaina Wolfe supplied eight digs.
Emily Lynch and
Brenna Spangler each had two block assists.
The Leafs are back at home again on Saturday, September 16, at 3:00 pm against Marian.
