Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Justin DeWeese

Leafs start season 4-0 for first time since 1997

Goshen had their most shots in a game since 2012

GOSHEN, Ind. - For the first time since 1997, the Goshen women's soccer team has started the season with a 4-0 record.

The Leafs defeated Brescia 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the GC Soccer Complex. Seja Lang's goal in the 37th minute proved to be the difference maker. Anita Tavares was credited with the assist.

Goshen had 37 shots in the game - their most against an NAIA opponent since putting up 41 in a 9-0 win over William Penn in 2012. 11 of the shots were on frame, but many were directed right at Bearcats goalkeeper Ashby Greenwell, who made ten saves. Goshen had 18 first-half shots and 19 in the second half.

Sophia Yoder took nine of the shots, and Lang had six. Tavares, Klara Ebert, Lexy Adamczyk, Amy Drew and Madalyne Swallow all had at least three shots each. Yoder is tied for the league lead in shots this season with 19.

Gracia Garcia made five saves in her 90-minute shutout. She is tied for fourth in the league in save percentage (.917) with teammate Victoria Naylor.

The Leafs are at home on Labor Day - Monday, September 4 - at 11:00 am against Carolina. Note that this game was initially scheduled for noon but has been moved up an hour due to the heat.
