Leafs take Cougars to five sets before defeat

Spangler had three block assists and a solo block

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - Goshen nearly pulled off their first conference win of the season on Wednesday in Spring Arbor, but the Cougars prevailed in a five-set match.

SAU scored the final six points of the first set to win 25-19. But Goshen used a 6-0 run in the second set to make a two-point deficit into a four-point lead, winning the set by three. Spring Arbor led 7-2 in the third set before Goshen tied it at seven apiece. They used the momentum to win the third set 25-20.

The Cougars looked much more dominant from that point on. They won the fourth set 25-10 and the fifth set 15-8, outscoring the Leafs 40-18. This was the first time Goshen made it to a fifth set against a Crossroads League opponent since the 2019 season.

Lynch, Gwyn Bellamy and Sadie Brenneman all had double-digit kills. Alaina Wolfe had 24 digs, and Brenneman added 17 more. Kelsie Hankins guided the offense with 35 assists.
