SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - Goshen nearly pulled off their first conference win of the season on Wednesday in Spring Arbor, but the Cougars prevailed in a five-set match.
SAU scored the final six points of the first set to win 25-19. But Goshen used a 6-0 run in the second set to make a two-point deficit into a four-point lead, winning the set by three. Spring Arbor led 7-2 in the third set before Goshen tied it at seven apiece. They used the momentum to win the third set 25-20.
The Cougars looked much more dominant from that point on. They won the fourth set 25-10 and the fifth set 15-8, outscoring the Leafs 40-18. This was the first time Goshen made it to a fifth set against a Crossroads League opponent since the 2019 season.
Brenna Spangler had three block assists and a solo block for Goshen.
Bailee Brown and
Emily Lynch had three block assists each, as well. Lynch,
Gwyn Bellamy and
Sadie Brenneman all had double-digit kills.
Alaina Wolfe had 24 digs, and Brenneman added 17 more.
Kelsie Hankins guided the offense with 35 assists.
Spring Arbor is 9-7 overall, while GC drops to 7-10. Goshen makes the road trip to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday, September 22, for a 7:00 pm start.
