GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen came within two points of a second-set victory against Taylor on Wednesday night, but the Trojans won 3-0. Taylor was the Crossroads League regular season and tournament champions last season.
After dropping the first set 25-15, the Leafs took their first lead in the second set at 6-5. The lead extended to as many as four, and they led late when it was 23-22 in their favor. However, Taylor ended the set with three straight block assists, with Jaylynn Dunsmore being a part of all three. Goshen had a 5-0 run near the end of the third set, but it wasn't enough as Taylor won it 25-18.
Dunsmore had seven block assists for Taylor, and
Bailee Brown had eight for the Maple Leafs. Brown's previous season-high was three. Goshen had 14 digs from
Alaina Wolfe, eight kills each from
Emily Lynch and
Sadie Brenneman and 22 assists from
Kelsie Hankins.
The Maple Leafs host Bethel on Friday, September 29, at 7:00 pm for U.S. Highway 20 Cup points. Then, on Saturday, they'll host Grace at 2:00 pm. That game is Staff Appreciation Day, and the team will recognize staff members of their choosing before the start of the match.
