Goshen offense pulls through in 3-1 win at Concordia

GC more than doubled Concordia in shots on goal, total shots and corner kicks

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Goshen offense came through on Wednesday afternoon in Ann Arbor as the men's soccer team defeated Concordia 3-1. Mathurin Allawai, Tim Wilkening and Tebello Ntene scored for the Maple Leafs as they picked up their first win of the season.

Goshen came out strong with early shots on goal from Eli Simones and Allawai within the first five minutes. The Leafs would finish with 15 shots and eight shots on goal. Allawai scored in the 16th minute of play when he juked left of the goalkeeper and put the ball through for his second goal of the season.

The Cardinals responded in the second half when a GC defender kicked a loose ball toward a wide-open Carter Kerbawy, who passed the ball to his teammate Ignacio Lopez for the goal. However, the Maple Leafs caught the home team off guard on a set piece. After a quick pass to Eli Simones on the right side of the field, the sophomore crossed the ball to Tim Wilkening, who tapped it in, scored his first goal as a Maple Leaf, and made it 2-1. Exactly four minutes later, Tebello Ntene was tripped up inside the 18, resulting in a yellow card on Chandler Wilson and a Goshen penalty kick. Ntene sent the ball to the top left corner of the net and extended the lead to 3-1. The goal was Ntene's first with Goshen.

Goshen more than doubled Concordia in shots on goal, total shots and corner kicks. Allawai and Ntene combined to take nine of Goshen's 15 shots. Gregor Rommelspacher made two saves for the Leafs in goal.

After two games in Michigan, the Leafs are back in Goshen for their next match. They face Georgetown College (Ky.) on Saturday, September 9, at 1:00 pm.
