GOSHEN, Ind. - A late goal with under three minutes to go by Pedro Canal led the Georgetown Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Goshen men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon. After being shut out three games in a row, the Leafs have since scored in the last three games.
Goshen started the offense immediately.
Bryan Yahir Rodriguez had a shot saved just 30 seconds into the match, but
Mathurin Allawai connected on the rebound, scoring his third goal this season. The Tigers had a chance to tie the game in the 23rd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick, but GC goalkeeper
Gregor Rommelspacher made a kick save, and a second attempt went wide of the net.
Georgetown got on the board when Luca Perrin scored later in the half. Goshen had doubled the visitors' shot total 10-5 at the midway point. However, the Maple Leafs were limited to four shots in the second half. The final goal came from a long pass by Luca Perrin to Pedro Canal. Canal managed to stay onside, outran the Goshen defender, and put it away. Goshen ended the game with twice as many shots on goal than Georgetown - 8-4. The match had eight yellow cards - three for Goshen and five for Georgetown. Allawai and Ntene had half of GC's shots on goal. Last season, the Tigers won 3-0 when this match was played in Georgetown, Kentucky.
