INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - In a battle of two teams with undefeated 3-0 records in Crossroads League action, #6 Marian took down Goshen 92-54 in Indy on Wednesday night. The Knights are now 13-1 and winners of their last 11 games.
Goshen got on the board first but was down 21-13 after the first quarter despite leading in the rebounding category 11-6. The difference was eight turnovers in the period for the Leafs compared to one for the home team. Goshen used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to keep the game within reach, even though they were shooting 29% at that point. Marian hadn't made a three-pointer in the first two quarters.
The Knights created the separation in the latter two quarters, outscoring GC 53-25 in that span. Goshen dominated the boards 44-27 and had 21 offensive rebounds compared to six for Marian. The 21 offensive board is tied for their second-most in a game this season. However, Goshen also had the second-most turnovers in a game this season at 23, their worst shooting percentage of the year at 30%, and their fewest assists in a game at six. Marian won in steals 14-2 and assists 22-6.
Syanne Mohamed had 15 points and nine rebounds for Goshen, ending her streak of five straight double-doubles. After being held scoreless against Aquinas on Friday,
Kiana Oelling had a much-improved performance tonight with 12 points and going 4-4 at the free-throw line. She is 41-45 at the line this season, a whopping 91.1%.
Kyla Foster shot just 1-8, but she had nine rebounds - including five offensive rebounds.
Paula Ferrer Nolla scored her first points as a Maple Leaf. She had four points and three rebounds in six minutes of play.
Goshen has lost their last four after winning eight straight but remains 3-1 in the conference. The Leafs host Grace on Saturday, January 6, at 1:00 pm.
