Holy Cross edges out Maple Leafs 86-83 despite career-highs from Null and Lickliter

Goshen has outrebounded their opponents in all four games this season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - A late rally caused Goshen women's basketball to take their first loss of the season on the road at Holy Cross College, as the Saints pulled through to win 86-83. HCC outscored Goshen 28-21 in the fourth quarter.

With a 10-8 lead, Goshen went on a 12-2 run in the first quarter to go up by 12. Holy Cross cut it to a four-point Goshen lead in the second, then Goshen extended it to ten, but then it fell back to four by halftime. The lead stayed at four going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Goshen had nine turnovers, their most from any quarter, and Holy Cross made ten of their 16 shot attempts. The Saints took the lead with 4:52 to go and went up eight with two minutes left. Goshen came back to within three and forced a shotclock violation on the home team with 5.2 seconds left. The Leafs had a three-point attempt at the buzzer in an effort to send the game to overtime but it was off the mark. In their ten possessions between 6:30 and 1:15 of the fourth quarter, Goshen shot 0-3 with six turnovers.

Lillian Null beat her previous career-high in points with 20 tonight. She made three three-pointers in the game after only having four in her career before tonight, all in different games. Her seven rebounds tied a career-high, though her five turnovers was also a career-high. Ava Lickliter had career-highs with 19 points but also eight turnovers.

Lickliter and Zoe Zellers each went 8-10 at the free-throw line, both career-highs for them in free throws made. Zellers' 18 points was a career-high. Kiana Oelling had a career-high with five offensive rebounds. It was Goshen's fourth straight game where they outrebounded their opponent. Syanne Mohamed was one rebound away from a double-double for the seventh time in her career. She already has 11 double-doubles.

Goshen (3-1) is at Aquinas on Saturday, November 13. That game will be played at 5:30 pm afte initially being scheduled for 1:00 pm.
