Goshen wins lopsided contest with Cornerstone

Goshen's 190 points in the last two games is the third-most in back-to-back games ever

GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen had their second dominant win in as many games with a one-sided 74-48 victory over Cornerstone on day two of the Ruth Gunden Memorial Classic. Goshen has started 2-0 in three of the last four years after doing it once in the previous 18 seasons.

In their four games in the Ruth Gunden Memorial Classic from 2022 and 2024, Goshen is 4-0 and outscored opponents 344-230. While yesterday's first quarter was all about the 40 points that GC scored, today's first quarter was highlighted by Goshen allowing just five points. Cornerstone was held to shooting 2-15 in the first and 1-6 form three-point range. They finished the game 3-24 from deep.

Goshen had a 25-point lead at the half and outscored the Golden Eagles by one in the second half.

50 of Goshen's 74 points came in the paint and they outrebounded Cornerstone 51-20. Syanne Mohamed posted an impressive double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds on 10-13 shooting. Her 17 rebounds are the second-most she has had in her fourth year in Goshen, only behind a 19-rebound performance against Aquinas on December 29, 2023. It was her fourth career 20-point double-double and her third 20 point/15 rebound game. Ava Lickliter scored 17 points, making 70% of her attempts. Her 17 points and seven field goals are both career highs. The 70% shooting percentage is her best ever with five or more attempts in a game. Zion Neat had 15 points on 7-8 shooting - more field goals made than any game last year.

Goshen lost to Cornerstone by 13 last year in a neutral site game at Saint Francis. The Golden Eagles were 9-0 against Goshen since 2003 before the GC win today. Goshen's 190 points over the last two games is the third-most for the team in back-to-back games ever. They had 218 points in the first two games of 2000 and 206 in the first two games of 1999. Goshen was +20 in the glass in back-to-back games for the first time since 2015.

Goshen (2-0) hosts Trinity Christian College on Saturday, November 9, at 1:00 pm for their Mental Health Awareness Game.
