GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen women's basketball team rallied from a loss on the road at Ohio Christian on Monday with a home win against IU-East by a score of 66-62 on Tuesday. The Leafs had a 4-2 record in December.
Goshen was down five after the first quarter but held the Red Wolves to just nine points and 19% shooting in the second quarter. GC held that four point lead for the rest of the game despite a late comeback effort from the visitors. Goshen was up seven with 2:21 to go but IU-East cut the deficit to two on multiple occasions. Goshen was inbounding the ball with ten seconds left when a GC foul gave the ball back to the Red Wolves with a chance to tie or take the lead. However, Taylor Farris hit a GC defender on her inbound pass and the Leafs came up with the turnover before
Ava Lickliter was fouled. Lickliter made both of her free-throw attempts and the Leafs won by five.
Goshen won the rebound margin by 22, with 13 boards coming from
Syanne Mohamed. Mohamed had seven defensive and six offensive rebounds. What kept the Red Wolves in the game was Goshen's 28 turnovers. Mohamed had seven and
Emme Boots had six, whereas IU-East had 13 as a team. Goshen shot better from the floor, winning the field goal percentage battle 44% to 34%. The Leafs have beat the Red Wolves two seasons in a row by a combined seven points. They lost the two matchups before that in 2016 and 2020.
Zion Neat,
Ava Lickliter and
Syanne Mohamed scored over 80% of the team's points. Neat had 22 points and six rebounds.
Ava Lickliter had 16 points with five steals. Mohamed had 15 points to go with her 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Goshen (7-6, 1-3 CL) wrapped up their nonconference schedule with the win. They are at Grace on Saturday, January 4, at 1:00 pm.
