Bryant makes career-high six field goals as Knights top Leafs in Goshen

Bryant also had a season-high 14 points

GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen fell to Marian University 93-70 on Saturday in Goshen, Indiana. The Leafs now play four nonconference games and an exhibition game before getting back to league play on January 4.

GC struggled with turnovers and fouls in the first half, and despite a late push with three-point shots from DJ Bryant and Judah Simfukwe, the Knights, coached by legendary coach Bob Knight's son Pat Knight, ended the half ahead 52-39. Marian made 22 of their 28 first-half field goals - an incredible 79%.

While Marian's offense settled down in the second half, so did Goshen's. The Knights went from shooting 79% in the first to 50% in the second and the Maple Leafs went from 47% in the first to 39% in the second. Goshen made seven of their 32 three-point attempts in the game for just 22%, but were only outrebounded by one.

DJ Bryant led the Leafs in scoring with 14 points, hitting 6-10 from the field, including 2-5 from 3-point range, marking season highs in all three categories, with the six field goals also setting a career-high. Judah Simfukwe contributed significantly with 15 points, making 5-12 field goals while also grabbing five rebounds. Richard Wilson showed a strong performance on the boards, leading the team with nine rebounds - missing a double-double by one rebound for the second straight game - and his five offensive rebounds were a season-high. This was the fourth time in the last five games that he has recorded eight or more rebounds. He also scored 14 points with one block and a steal. Kevin Cota provided defensive support with two blocks, tying his career and season-high, and contributed eight points and four rebounds. Jacob Carlson had his second double-figure scoring game of the season, featuring both a three-point play and a four-point and-one play. Baran Aslan secured a season-high with two rebounds.

Goshen hosts Midway University out of Kentucky on Monday, December 16, at 6:00 pm.
