GOSHEN, Ind. - In a tale of two halves, Goshen lost to Spring Arbor on Wednesday night in Gunden Gymnasium 79-73. The Leafs outscored the Cougars 36-22 in the first two quarters, but SAU had a 57-37 edge in the latter two.
Goshen quickly went on a 12-0 run to start the game with seven points from
Syanne Mohamed, two from
Zoe Zellers and a three-pointer out of the hands of
Kiana Oelling. The lead was down to five at the quarter's end, but GC brought it back up to 14 a couple of times in the second.
Spring Arbor turned the tide when they came back from the halftime break. They made 19 of their 33 shots and nine of their 14 three-pointers. Goshen had a 16-point lead in the third, but SAU already had it tied with 3:02 to go in the quarter. The Leafs led 71-70 with 64 seconds remaining in the game, but the Cougars ended the night by scoring eight of the final ten points. Goshen was 0-5 from deep in the last two quarters.
Syanne Mohamed had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. She added five assists, two blocks and a steal.
Kiana Oelling had 13 points. She has had three double-digit scoring games in the last four contests after previously having none in the five games before that.
Kyla Foster only took three shots but had seven rebounds and five assists to go with six points.
Spring Arbor is now 20-5 overall and 11-4 in conference. Goshen lost at Spring Arbor in January by seven. The Maple Leafs (9-16, 4-11 CL) are at Taylor on Saturday, February 17, at 1:00 pm.
