Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Justin DeWeese

Maple Leafs outrebounded by 13 in loss at Taylor

Oelling scores 16, goes 7-12 from the floor

UPLAND, Ind. - The women's basketball team had their second-lowest rebound margin of the year on Saturday at Taylor in a 76-64 defeat. Kiana Oelling led the Leafs with 16 points - she has scored in double figures in four of the last five games.

Oelling scored seven of her points in the first quarter, making up half of Goshen's 14 points. Taylor's Ava Henson also had a solid first quarter with 11 points and would go on to finish with 27.

Goshen only put up 11 points in the second, and the Trojans ended the quarter on a 14-2 run to go up eight at the break - their largest lead to that point. Late baskets in the third quarter from Sophia Eli and Oelling cut the lead to seven, and a three from Eli in the fourth quarter cut it down to six, but Goshen couldn't get any closer, and Taylor would win by 12.

Oelling was 7-12 from the floor with four assists and three steals to go with her 16 points. Kyla Foster covered the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Syanne Mohamed and Ava Lickliter also had four assists each.

The Leafs had 31 rebounds to Taylor's 44.

With the loss on Saturday, Goshen's best position in the Crossroads League tournament is the eighth seed. Bethel was eliminated from postseason contention with their nine-point loss to Marian on Saturday. Goshen leads Mount Vernon Nazarene by one game in the standings and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, having beaten them twice this season. The Leafs would clinch a playoff spot with a win at Indiana Wesleyan or vs Huntington, or an MVNU loss vs Marian or at Grace.

Goshen is at #4 IWU on Wednesday, February 21, at 5:00 pm. MVNU hosts #2 Marian at that same time.
