GOSHEN, Ind. - The men's soccer team lost their home opener on Saturday against Madonna, 2-1. After being down two goals to none just 22 minutes into the game,
Adrian Gonzalez Martinez cut the lead in half but the Leafs couldn't finish the comeback attempt.
Madonna's two goals came within 90 seconds of each other. Corey Matthews scored the first in the 20th minute on a pass from Andres Gomez. Shortly after, Gomez scored on a pass from Matthews. Although Madonna was up 2-0, Goshen outshot the Crusaders 7-5.
The goal from Gonzalez Martinez came in the 51st minute with the assist credited to
Mathurin Allawai. The Leafs outshot Madonna by an even greater margin in the second half - 11-3. Madonna goalkeeper Afonso Henrique made eight saves through the match.
Gonzalez Martinez and Allawai each had three shots on goal.

Martin Gonzales had one apiece.
The Maple Leafs are at Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, August 21, at 4:00 pm. The game had originally been scheduled for 7:00 pm.
