GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen men's soccer team beat Concordia (Mich.) for the second straight season, outscoring the Cardinals 7-2 over the two games. The Maple Leafs won at home on Saturday afternoon 4-1, led by a hat trick from
Tebello Ntene.
Like the first two games this season, the Maple Leafs were down at the half without a goal scored. But unlike the previous games, the Leafs were only down 1-0 this time. Goshen scored four times in the second half, and all six of their goals this season have come in the second half.
Eli Simones scored the first in the 52nd minute - his sixth career goal as a Maple Leaf.
Then Ntene had the next three, in quick succession. He scored in the 66th, 78th and 79th minutes as the Cardinals were succumbing to the August heat. For Ntene, a junior, these were his second, third and fourth goals as a Maple Leaf.
Concordia outshot Goshen 14-13, and both teams had seven shots on goal.
Gregor Rommelspacher made six saves in goal, allowing just one goal. The GC assists went to Simones,
Iker Fernandez-Andes and
Arturo Hernandez-Barrera. Fernandez-Andes is a transfer from Texas A&M International University.
With a 1-2 record, the Maple Leafs travel to Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday, August 28, at 7:00 pm.
