SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. - In their two final matches at the Showdown in the Woods, Goshen women's volleyball lost to Governors State in three sets and Clarke University in five. The Leafs finished the weekend with a 2-3 record.

Goshen vs Governors State
The Leafs beat the Jaguars earlier this season in Lima, Ohio, in three sets. But Governors State won 25-19, 25-21, 26-24 on Saturday. Goshen never held a lead in the first set, but they led for a majority of the second set. With a 21-15 Goshen lead though, Governors State finished on a 10-0 run that included four kills and six Goshen attack errors.

The Jaguars had sizable leads at 18-13 and 22-18 in the third set, but Goshen fought back both times. When Governors State was at match point, GC scored to tie it at 24, but the Jaguars won the next two points and took the match.

Alaina Wolfe totaled 23 digs for Goshen. Sadie Brenneman had 14 kills and Bailee Brown added 11. Kelsie Hankins had 35 assists.

Goshen vs Clarke
Goshen looked strong in their first set against the Clarke Pride. The Leafs had a .370 hitting percentage in the set and rallied after Clarke's early 6-1 lead. When the Pride led 18-16, Goshen won nine of the last ten points to win the first set 25-19. Then it was Goshen with the early 7-2 second set lead which eventually translated to a 28-26 win. A Kelsie Hankins ace ended the set.

However, Clarke controlled the third set. With a narrow 13-12 lead, they ended the set on a 12-2 run. They kept the momentum going with a 25-20 win in the fourth set and a 15-9 win in the fifth.

Armani Guidry-Austin had ten kills and a .381 hitting percentage in the match. Sadie Brenneman had 13 kills and six digs. Kelsie Hankins produced 36 assists and 14 digs.

After playing 16 matches over the last 16 days and 11 within the previous nine days, Goshen has completed the nonconference portion of the schedule and will start Crossroads League competition. That starts on Wednesday, September 4, at Taylor at 7:00 pm.
