Goshen ties with Rochester Christian, puts up 17 shots on goal

Kanu and Garcia were the Goshen goal scorers

WASHINGTON, Mich. - The Goshen men's soccer team tied 2-2 with Rochester Christian on Wednesday afternoon. Although Goshen outshot RCU 31-5, the Warriors had two free-kick goals to balance out the Goshen goals by Kingsley Kanu and Raul Garcia.

In the 30th minute, Eli Simones crossed the ball to the left side of the field where Martin Gonzales took a shot attempt that was blocked. However, Kanu was there for the rebound, and Goshen had a 1-0 lead. At the half, the Leafs kept the lead and had outshot Rochester Christian 18-2 by that point.

In the second half, Adrian Lopez scored on a free kick in the 58th minute to tie it up. Raul Garcia scored his first goal of the season off his left foot in the 79th minute after a pass from Iker Fernandez-Andes. It seemed that it would be the game-winning goal the way Goshen had dominated the offensive attack in the game, but Lopez was presented with another free-kick opportunity in the 82nd minute and connected again to tie it at two.

Goshen took 17 shots on goal and RCU had two - the two goals. Kris Tauzik made 15 saves as the Rochester Christian goalkeeper. Garcia, Kingsley and Tebello Ntene each took three shots on goal for the Maple Leafs. Goshen's 17 shots on goal are the most they have had since at least 2015.

The Maple Leafs (2-3-2) are at Kuyper College on Saturday, September 14, at 6:00 pm. The game had originally been scheduled for 5:00 pm.
