GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen and Huntington women's soccer teams played to a scoreless draw to start league play on Wednesday in Goshen. Goshen has not allowed Huntington to score in six of the last seven matchups dating back to 2018.
The Leafs outplayed the Foresters in the first half, leading in the shots department 12-5. Goshen also took seven first half corner kicks while Huntington had none. The second half was more balanced. Huntington took six shots and Goshen had five, and each team had two corner kicks. When it was all said and done, only three of Goshen's 17 shots were on goal and only two of Huntington's 11 shots.
Sophia Shepherd took seven shots for Huntington and had both of their attempts on goal.
Amy Drew led Goshen with six shots though just one was on frame.
Karlee Ballast had three shots, as well as the other two on-target shot attempts.
Brynja Hjartardottir had four shots and
Sophia Yoder had three after coming in to the game off the bench.
Makiah McCain made two saves for the Leafs.
Goshen is now at the hardest part of their schedule, with three straight matchups against teams ranked in the top 20 of the NAIA. They begin by facing #10 Marian on the road on Saturday, September 28, at 2:00 pm. This game had originally been scheduled for 7:00 pm but was moved to earlier in the day.
