NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The men's soccer team picked up their first tie this season on the road at Holy Cross College, playing to a 1-1 score. The Maple Leafs and Saints now have identical 1-3-1 records this season.
Adrian Gonzalez Martinez scored Goshen's goal in the 23rd minute off a pass from
Eli Simones. The Saints answered right before the half on a goal from Eric Johnson in the 43rd minute. The Leafs had seven first half shots compared to three for HCC.
Gregor Rommelspacher made two second half saves and allowed no goals in the half. Holy Cross doubled their shot total in the second period with six shots, whereas Goshen had four. Martin Von Thun picked up his second yellow card in the 87th minute, meaning that Holy Cross was down a player for the last three minutes and some change. However, the score stayed the same and the teams left with a 1-1 tie.
Gonzalez Martinez and
Tebello Ntene each had three shots for Goshen and
Stephen Bandi had two. Those three, along with
Tim Wilkening, all had one shot on goal. Goshen has scored at least one goal in every match this season.
