GOSHEN, Ind. - Five different players scored Goshen's five goals in a 5-3 win over IU-Northwest on Saturday evening at the GC Soccer Complex. Goshen's 24 shots are the most they've had in a game since also shooting 24 times against Taylor on October 10, 2020.
The Maple Leafs already held a 4-0 lead at the half.
Eli Simones scored his second goal this season in the eighth minute and
Tebello Ntene scored his fifth goal of the year just a minute and eight seconds later.
Guilherme Moreira scored in the 24th minute and
Stephen Bandi assisted on the second and third Goshen goals.
Mathurin Allawai scored on a pass from
Eduardo Curvo in the 42nd minute to bring the lead to four.
Goshen made some substitutions in the second half and the RedHawks were able to connect. The Leafs sent 23 different players on the field over the course of the game. IU-Northwest scored in the 51st and 54th minutes to cut their deficit in half. Then,
Alejandro Portocarrero scored his first goal, assisted by
Iker Fernandez-Andes, in the 71st minute. The RedHawks scored once more in the 74th minute, but 5-3 was the final in favor of Goshen.
The last time Goshen had five goals in a game was a 5-1 win at the University of St. Francis (Ill.) on August 28, 2021. The last time they scored five goals at the GC Soccer Complex was September 14, 2019, a 6-0 win against tonight's opponent, IU-Northwest.
The Leafs had 16 first-half shots, averaging a shot every two minutes and forty-nine seconds. Ntene led Goshen with six shots taken.
Goshen is at Rochester Christian on Wednesday, September 11, at 12:00 pm. The game had originally been scheduled for 7:00 pm. It will be played at the Michigan Stars Sports Center.
