GOSHEN, Ind. - Although they were only outscored by two in the second half, the Goshen men's basketball team shot under 15% in the first half before a 35-point loss to the Spring Arbor Cougars. The Cougars, who are receiving votes in the coaches poll, won 80-45.
Goshen was down 12-6 when the Cougars went on a 27-2 run that took their lead to 39-8. At the half they had a 44-11 advantage, holding the Leafs to just four made field goals. In the second half, GC shot 41%, but they finished the game shooting just 3-27 behind the arc. At the line, however, Goshen shot 12-13.
Spring Arbor was led by two main scorers. Shane Rykse finished with 23 points and Gabe Newhof provided 22. Goshen got 11 points from
Judah Simfukwe, who was a perfect 6-6 at the line.
Richard Wilson shot 5-11 and had ten points.
The Leafs will look for their first conference win on the road at Taylor on Saturday, January 11, at 3:00 pm.
