GOSHEN, Ind. - Despite a strong second half where the Leafs more than doubled the number of shots of their opponent, the #10 Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats took down Goshen 2-0 in men's soccer on Saturday evening on Senior Night. Seniors Junto Murata, Thiago Serejo, Guilherme Moreira, Nate Reeser, Eli Simones, Adrian Gonzalez Martinez, Alejandro Portocarrero, Arturo Hernandez-Barrera, Iker Fernandez-Andes, William Jackson, Stephen Bandi and Tim Groenenberg were recognized before the match.

The opportunities in the first half for both teams were minimal. Goshen didn't have any first half shots and Indiana Wesleyan had six. However, IWU had five corner kicks and they eventually capitalized in the 40th minute on a goal from Eliass Elfasoukhi, assisted by Taha Houssni.

The Maple Leafs, through a series of strong passes, set up numerous chances in the second half, but they could never quite finish. Goshen had seven shots in that 45-minute span, but none were on goal. Meanwhile, they cut Indiana Wesleyan down to three shots in the half. The Leafs also had three corner kicks in the second half compared to none for IWU. The visitors scored again in the 83rd minute, as Kai Haskell found the back of the net from a pass by Guzman Trigo. Goshen was awarded a penalty kick in the final minutes but Eli Simones was unable to connect. Goshen was 4/5 on penalty kicks this season heading into the attempt.

Guilherme Moreira and Nicholas Whitaker both had two shots. Eli Simones, Stephen Bandi and Pedro Diegues had one apiece. This was the first time Goshen has been shutout in a game this season since August 23 at Madonna.

The Leafs are at Huntington on Wednesday, October 15, at 6:00 pm.

Good evening, and welcome to the Goshen College Soccer Complex! Tonight, we recognize the Goshen College men's soccer senior class.
Our seniors will leave Goshen having advanced in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. They have made the people and places around them better, and we are privileged to have had them for the time we did.
Please direct your attention to the field as we welcome head coach Dan Sullivan and assistants Henrique Eichenberger and Herbert Lopez to recognize our seniors.
We start by recognizing #1, Junto Murata! Junto is being escorted by Kellam Venosky. He is a sports management major and plans to work at an international company for a few years and then an independent company. Thank you, Junto!

Next, we have #2, Thiago Serejo Pereira! Thiago is being escorted by Kellam Venosky. He is an exercise science major and plans to earn his strength and conditioning specialist certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. His goal is to make a positive impact on athletes by helping them reach their full potential as a strength and conditioning coach in the United State. Thank you, Thiago!

Coming through now is #3, Guilherme Moreira! Guilherme is being escorted by Jorge Silva, Salvador Evangelho, Guilherme Mello, Eduardo Curvo and Lucas Cardoso. He is a physical education major and wants to work in that field after college, particularly in coaching. Thank you, Guilherme!

Let's congratulate #4, Nate Reeser! Nate is being escorted by his father Scott, his mother Angie and his brother Mitchell. He is an engineering physics major and plans to further his education at Notre Dame after his time at Goshen. Thank you, Nate!

Our next Goshen senior is #7, Eli Simones! Eli is being escorted by his dad Joe, his mom Heidi, his brother Wyatt and his girlfriend Claire. He is also joined tonight by his grandparents Keith and Shirley and his grandma Kathy watching via livestream. Eli is a sports management major with minors in business and physical education. After school, he would like to stay involved in soccer through coaching or management. Thank you, Eli!

Next, we have #8, Adrian Gonzalez Martinez! Adrian is being escorted by his dad Alejandro Gonzalez, his mom Guadalupe Martinez and his best friend Felipe Mogollon. He is a computer science major and he would like to either attend grad school or apply for Optional Practical Training in the United States. Thank you, Adrian!

Our next senior is #9, Alejandro Portocarrero! Alejandro is being escorted by his parents Israel Portocarrero and Maria Padron. He is a business major and plans on starting and growing a business with his dad. He wants to use what he has learned to help build something successful together with him. Thank you, Alejandro!

Next, we have #10, Arturo Hernandez-Barrera! Arturo is being escorted by his dad Arturo Hernandez, his mom Marisol Barrera and his brother Alan Hernandez. He is a business major with a minor in marketing. After college, he would like to start and run a company and be a huge asset to the team. Thank you, Arturo!

Coming through now is #11, Iker Fernandez-Andes! Iker is being escorted by his friend and teammate Gabriel Viau. Iker is an exercise science major with a psychology minor. He intends on pursuing a masters degree while working, eventually going back to Europe. Thank you, Iker!

Let's congratulate #16, William Jackson! William is being escorted by his fellow New Zealand friend Noah Gray. He is a criminal justice and restorative justice major and would like to go to law school in New Zealand to work as a corporate lawyer down the road. Thank you, William!

Our next Goshen senior is #26, Stephen Bandi! Bandi is being escorted by Wendo Kisila and Meleah Plank. He is a computer science major and plans to explore the country and then go visit his family. He would also like to come back and continue his education by getting a master's degree in cybersecurity. Thank you, Bandi!

Rounding out our group of seniors is #31, Tim Groenenberg! Tim is being escorted by his teammates and friends Nicolas Amarilla Vargas and Joao Brasiliano. He is a business major, and after graduation he plans to explore career opportunities in business and sports while continuing to stay active in soccer. Thank you, Tim!
