Maple Leafs shut out on Senior Night

GOSHEN, Ind. - Saint Francis won their second game of the season on Saturday night, beating Goshen 6-0 at the Goshen Soccer Complex. The Cougars led 4-0 at halftime before adding two more in the second half to win the contest.

The game marked the Goshen College Senior Night. Seniors Victoria Naylor and Laura Castro kicked off the game for the Maple Leafs. The Cougars stormed into a commanding lead inside the first ten minutes of the game. In the fifth minute, Grace Heins' shot hit the crossbar, before Faith Lewis' shot on the rebound deflected off a Goshen defender and settled in the bottom left corner.

Lewis got her second goal of the game shortly after in the ninth minute. Hailey Stanforth's through ball found the midfielder, whose shot beat Aina Lopez and found its way into the bottom right corner of the net.

The third goal of the game came in the seventeenth minute. Evelyn Harkenrider picked up the ball on the edge of the box and beat two Goshen defenders. Harkenrider shot across Lopez's goal, and the ball found the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Lewis completed her hat-trick for the Cougars in the 38th minute. A dangerous cross from Hein fell to Lewis on the edge of the six-yard box, and Lewis slotted into an empty net. This hat-trick marks the first time Lewis has scored in a game since September 3.

Goshen held the Cougars until the 13th minute of the second half when the ball fell to Madison Meeks on the edge of the box from a corner from Heim. Meeks' first-time effort found the top right corner to extend the Cougars' advantage to five.

The final goal of the game came in the final five minutes. The ball fell to Taylor Keenan, who played the ball into the path of the onrushing Gwent Laurent, who fired across the goal, past Isaura Toledo, and into the net.

Goshen only managed four shots throughout the 90 minutes. These shots came from Yvonne Friedmann, Natalie Boulier, May Boudreau and Sophia Yoder. Boulier and Friedmann's shots were on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Isaura Toledo faced the most shots of her career during the game. She also achieved a career high of eight saves during the game.
